Research

For this project, we as a class were tasked with creating a theater poster for the local production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest performed by the Stage Coach Players. To start research I first read the play and researched the era so I could develop an idea for the poster that would fit well.

Early Sketches and Ideas

My initial idea for the poster was to represent the patients and Nurse from the play. From early sketches, I had the forms more as shapes before landing on what I did for the poster. This variation was interesting, however it was hard to get the full concept I was going for.

Initial 3D Modeling

After sketching, I pivoted to the idea of rendering glass shards as the shapes and keeping the abstract shapes for the patients and nurse but now rendered in cardstock.

First Composition

Once I created an early variation of my model I created the first composition. This is where I started to get an idea of how I would arrange the poster elements along with how I was gonna arrange the important play information.

More 3D Modeling

Once I got my first composition of the poster made, it showed what worked and what didn’t for the poster. So, with the notes I received from my classmates and professors, I made several changes to the model.

Final Poster

After making changes to the model, I also made several changes to the type and layout. This is the final version I landed on.
